Brussels is both the heart of Europe and the capital of Belgium, a country that has been fighting for unity for a long time. On several occasions, Belgium has been without government for extended periods as the North and South parts of the country find it hard to agree. Brussels also hosts political institutions of the European Union including the European Parliament and the European Commission.
